YESvember Thankful Thursday Week 4

YESvember Thankful Thursday Week 4

Hello and happy Thursday. Yesterday I got a phone call I totally wasn’t expected and it improved my mood by 1000%, which makes me even more excited to share this week’s happy thoughts. Let’s get started, shall we?

November 16th, 2017

#1714: Getting new stuff.

I am obsessed with online shopping, and sometimes I buy something and totally forget about it until it arrives and it’s double the joy. I don’t know what it was that I got because, again, I don’t really keep track of my purchases, but at least it made me happy, right?

November 17th, 2017

#1718: Flying by myself.

Here I’m talking about a trip I took to Cartagena with my sister, only the day I flew there she had class and couldn’t make it to the airport. That meant I was traveling alone and she would get there the following day. I had only traveled by plane completely by myself twice before and it was just like magic, really.

November 18th, 2017

#1723: Having lunch at La Brioche.

Listen up: if you go to Cartagena and have a sudden urge to eat a burger for lunch, go to La Brioche at Bocagrande. It is an absolutely fantastic place that I totally recommend and would visit again in a heartbeat.

November 19th, 2017

#1730: Zumba en la Plaza.

Okay, this post is starting to look like a guide to Cartagena or something, but one of the things you MUST experience there is Zumba en la Plaza. I’m not sure if that is still happening, but it used to be almost like a tradition. Basically, every Sunday at 7pm in the Getsemani town square there is/was a Zumba class. I missed it the time I went to Cartagena with my friends from university, but I was sure going to be there when I went with my sister. And I did. And it was awesome.

#1733: Making plans for our next trip.

Between 2017 and 2018 I was able to take my sister on some nice trips to touristic cities in Colombia, and it was a very cool experience. We spent three days in Cartagena at that time, which obviously meant that there were some things we could not do or see. So, obviously, as we made a list of what we’d missed, I was already thinking about going home and buying tickets for another time. I guess you’ll have to wait and see if there’s a second part of our Sisterventures in Cartagena.

What city or town makes you happy and why? Let me know in the comments below.

Happy Thursday!

YESvember 2019 Thankful Thursday Week 3

YESvember 2019 Thankful Thursday Week 3

Copy of THROWBACK THURSDAY.pngHello and happy Thursday. I always get excited to share these happy thoughts with you because it’s nice to look back and remember moments in my life that were relevant enough for me to put them down on paper. If you’re new to this blog or this series, hi, my name is Camila and I have a notebook where every day I write thoughts that made me happy. I am now recalling the happy thoughts from 2017 and will progress to other years as I keep writing these posts. Let’s get started, shall we?

November 11th, 2017

#1687: Finishing my planning and even creating some nice products.

Unlike other teachers, I enjoy lesson planning and I get so invested in the process that I even create resources for my own students, which I sell on my TpT store. You will see that often at least one of these thoughts is work-related and that’s because I love my job as a teacher, and even when I’m not in a classroom giving class, doing teaching-related stuff brings me joy.

November 12th, 2017

#1694: Watching videos of ’90 Day Fiancé’

Sorry about the poor grammar here, but you got what I meant. I still sometimes get caught in the 90-Day Fiancé drama, although not as much as I did in the past. Because the show wasn’t really a big deal in Colombia, I would watch clips of it on YouTube via TLC because that’s how desperate I was to watch it. My favorite person is Anfisa and yes, you can fight me on that one.

November 13th, 2017

#1697: Watching episode 1 of Fuller House.

Again, I don’t think this is grammatically correct, but what are we going to do? Yes, I’ve watched every episode of Fuller House there is and yes, I cried in the first one. Is it better than Full House? No, but at least it’s entertaining and the episodes are short, so it’s good for binge-watching.

November 14th, 2017

#1704: A more relaxed Tuesday than I’d anticipated.

Remember in a previous post that I talked about how I had to come up with a choreography for the Christmas show at school? I’m pretty sure this Tuesday the kids were rehearsing for said Christmas show, and even if rehearsals are stressful and time-consuming, I’ll take those over teaching an actual class when we’re this close to the holiday break.

November 15th, 2017

#1709: Successfully working on another Skype exchange.

Don’t be dirty-minded, these Skype exchanges were for my students. We managed to do this video conference with a teacher who lives in the States and her class of Spanish learners, and it was beautiful. The kids sang, we took pictures, and everybody had a great time.

What has made you happy this week? Let me know in the comments below.

Happy Thursday!

YESvember 2019 Thankful Thursday Week 2

YESvember 2019 Thankful Thursday Week 2

Hello and happy Thursday. Try to say the title of this post three times as fast as you can. Okay, now that you’ve warmed up, let’s remember five things that made me happy in YESvember.

November 6th, 2017

#1663: Advancing on my trashy mommy porn book.

Hello, my name is Camila and I like erotica. I’m pretty sure that around this time I was devouring the Calendar Girl series by Audrey Carlan, which I really enjoyed. Also, saying that reading mommy porn is an understatement, we all know that I was looking for another adjective that also starts with h and ends with y. Here are some links if you want to know my in-depth thoughts on this series: [x] [x][x][x]. Enjoy!

November 7th, 2017

#1668: End-of-the-year massages.

I’m seriously trying to remember this day but I can’t. I seriously have no idea what I was talking about, and I’m not even sure if I meant to write “massages” or “messages.” Either way, I was happy about them and that’s all that matters, right?

November 8th, 2017

#1673: Having my desk decorated for my birthday.

Last week I told you that my birthday is on November 4th, which in 2017 was a Saturday, if I’m not mistaken. When I got to school the following Monday, my desk was full of balloons and party decorations, and there was a cupcake that one of my co-workers had brought me. I still have that picture somewhere because it made me super happy to feel so loved and appreciated by my colleagues.

November 9th, 2017

#1679: Getting out of a lunch date I don’t want to attend.

This person whom I was supposed to meet for lunch on November 9th, I’m not sure if I’m really sorry because, in all honesty, I don’t remember what this was about. Now that I’m more aware of my anxiety, I realize that I probably wasn’t just being lazy since social gatherings can be really triggering at times.

November 10th, 2017

#1684: Creating and uploading a new resource in Spanish.

Even though this blog is mostly in English, and even though I teach English, that’s not my first language. Spanish is my first language, and I feel proud when I can share things in Spanish with the world. This resource I’m talking about is a book study, so I also find it really cool to spread the word about Colombian authors and give them the visibility and recognition they deserve.

What is something that has made you happy this week? Let me know in the comments.

Happy Thursday!

Love, Miss Camila

YESvember 2019 Thankful Thursday Week 1

YESvember 2019 Thankful Thursday Week 1

Hello and happy Thursday. Also, happy YESvember! This is my birth month, which makes it super special. It is also the reason why every Thursday in YESvember will be Thankful Thursday. Let’s get started, shall we?

November 1st, 2017

#1639: Watching a video from Tashapolis.

I’d originally started watching Tashapolis for her BookTube videos, but then she started doing more unboxings and fashion-related content. I’m pretty sure I was referring to one of those clothing hauls because she got me started on them, and actually it was through her that I discovered ThredUp, so, in a way you can thank Natasha for that content in this blog.

November 2nd, 2017

#1641: My hair drying super quickly this morning.

I really hate washing my hair. The process itself is not that bad, but having wet hair is horrible. I rarely wash my hair on weekdays, but since the following day was a special occasion, I needed to be clean so that I could style it that night. I was grateful that the drying process didn’t take forever, though. It’s the little things…

November 3rd, 2017

#1646: Celebrating my b-day at work.

I love celebrating my birthday. I love the cake and the presents and being in the spotlight for a day. I’ve actually shared a few posts on how I’ve celebrated my birthday. Well, the first school I worked at had these flag-raising ceremonies every week, and when there were special occasions, the entire school would get together. One of these special events was the birthday of the school’s principal, which took place the day before mine. That meant that they did a huge celebration for his birthday. In a way, it was like they were celebrating me. I mean, we had cake and the principal would say my name in front of everyone and give me a present, and we got to leave early. Also, my colleagues decorated my desk with balloons and nice things.

November 4th, 2017

#1652: Getting a unicorn ring holder.

My birthday is November 4th just so you know (wink, wink), and this was a present from my best friend. As she gave it to me, she thought it was super tacky but that she knew I’d love it, and love it I do. It is one of those ring holder plates, but since the unicorn has a horn, rings can also be put there. I don’t think it’s particularly classy, but I think it’s absolutely gorgeous.

November 5th, 2017

#1656: Eating like there’s no tomorrow.

I don’t understand why some people don’t enjoy eating like I do. Honestly, eating is one of my favorite things to do, and you can certainly tell. For my birthday that year, I went away with my family and my best friend to this house outside of Bogotá that my dad’s wife owns, and there I do pretty much two things: eat and read. It was a very good birthday indeed.

What is one thing that has made you happy this first week of YESvember? Let me know in the comments below.

Happy Thursday!

October 2019 Thankful Thursday

October 2019 Thankful Thursday

Hello and happy Thursday. I just got an email saying that my domain has been renewed for another year, and that makes me happy and excited for this blog of mine that I have seen grow so much. Today I am going to share with you five things that made me happy in the month of October. Now, just to clarify, these happy thoughts are from 2017 because that’s when I started my notebook of Things That Make Me Happy. Also, I did post in English last month even though it was Spanish September, but for some reason, blogging in Spanish is a struggle for me, so I’d rather cheat and post in English than leave you with nothing. Anyway, let’s get started, shall we?

October 5th, 2017

#1502: Having a productive streak this afternoon.

I don’t know if this happens to you, but every once in a while I get in this proactive mood and I just have to work and do things, and it’s super gratifying. I think that I might have been doing something related to my job, but it also happens with TpT or blogging. The problem is that after getting really inspired and being super ambitious for a day, it sort of dies down and then I’m left with lots of to-dos on my list that I don’t plan to accomplish.

October 9th, 2017

#1525: Break week!

This is the total opposite of what I just described. Schools in Colombia give students a week of vacation in October for no apparent reason, and even if teachers are required to go to work, days without kids are always relaxed. When I was working at my first school, they gave us Friday off and Monday was a holiday, so we got a four-day weekend. And yes, as much as I love my job, I love vacations even more.

October 16th, 2017

#1558: Walking through a park filled with cats.

If you go to Medellin, you must visit the Botanical Garden. First, the entrance is free and the park is absolutely beautiful, and second, it is full of cats. Of course, these are stray cats, so you can’t pet them or get too close to them, but just looking at them and taking pictures of them was totally worth the visit for me.

October 20th, 2017

#1577: Coming up with a choreography for the Christmas song.

Dear aspiring kindergarten teacher, you need to know how to dance, or rather, coach a group of four and five-year-olds in a simple dancing routine. You will probably have an end-of-year performance that involves singing, dancing, or acting, and it can be the most stressful and time-consuming part of your job if you make it so, but it can also be very fun. Your choice.

October 25th, 2017

#1602: Having the chance to teach my former pre-k babes.

I used to teach two pre-k classes, one kindergarten, and two transitions (a grade between kindergarten and first grade). This means that when my pre-kinder students went up to kindergarten, I would only teach half of them because there was another teacher in charge of the other class. It made me happy teaching my former students and seeing that they remembered some of my classroom routines.

I am very excited for next month because it’ll be YESvember, and that means that every week we’ll have Thankful Thursday. What are you excited about or looking forward to? Let me know in the comments.

Happy Thursday!

Love, Miss Camila

September 2019 Thankful Thursday

September 2019 Thankful Thursday

Copy of THROWBACK THURSDAY.pngHello and happy Thursday. I feel like I’m changing the title in every post, but I’m too lazy to look at the last one I wrote and consistency is overrated anyway, right? Today we’re going to sit down for a few minutes and think about things that have made us happy. I’ll help you by sharing five of mine. Let’s get started, shall we?

September 4th, 2017

#1270: Taking a short nap on my way home.

Over time, I have become an expert bus napper. Yes, I have developed the skills to fall asleep on a bus and wake up in time to get off at my stop. And no, I don’t mean a school bus, but an actual public transportation vehicle. Besides those precious moments of undisturbed rest, I think it made me happy to know that I was actually able to wake up on my own before my stop. That proves just how well my intuition works.

September 9th, 2017

#1291: Wearing two makeup looks in one day.

I am assuming that I had a nighttime event, so I wore my regular (extra) makeup look during the day, and then I removed all of it and put on a new face. I don’t do that anymore because I am basically a hermit and I don’t go out at night as much, but there’s this magic that comes from transforming a daytime look into a nighttime one. It’s like playing pretend or like you’re two different people or something.

September 15th, 2017

#1321: Going to the movies with my grandmother.

My grandmother is the coolest person you will ever meet and the absolute love of my life, so of course, I decided to take her to the movies on a Friday afternoon. I worked until noon on Fridays, so it was perfect. I went to her house and we went to the mall that’s close by and we watched the cutest movie ever. It’s a French film about this old man who creates an online profile for a dating site but he lies about his age and ends up falling for a woman who’s much younger than him, and if that doesn’t sound like the best kind of movie you could watch with your grandmother, I don’t know what does.

September 19th, 2017

#1345: Resisting more my HIIT workout.

This sounds like it’s grammatically incorrect, but I’m not sure how the phrasing should go. In 2017 I was super into getting fit, not because I wanted to lose weight or be skinny but because I wanted to gain more muscle. For this, my nutritionist suggested HIIT, high-intensity interval training. And let me tell you, it was intense, so I obviously felt very proud of myself when I felt that I was able to resist more time or to do the exercises more intensely.

September 25th, 2017

#1371: Having tickets for the Bruno Mars concert.

I went to this concert with my sister and my two best friends and it was amazing. The process of getting the tickets? Not so much. Everybody and their mom was on that website on the day the ticket sale began, obviously, so the site crashed and my best friend was pressuring me and I, in turn, was pressuring my dad because this sale was exclusive for people who had a credit card with a certain bank and my dad had that credit card. It was stressful, to say the least, so when the tickets were purchased I was equal parts happy and relieved.

Those are my five happy thoughts for the month of September and now I want you to tell me something that has made you happy. Spread the good vibes in the comments below.

Happy Thursday,

Love, Miss Camila

August Thankful Thursday

August Thankful Thursday

Hello and happy Thursday. I am currently in a summer house two hours away from where I live and it’s pouring outside, but I just love being here and not in Bogota. I plan on having very intense reading sessions, and that makes me super happy. Let’s get started, shall we?

August 5th, 2015

#1117: Doing my nails for Back to School.

Going back to school for me was a whole event for me, and I would prepare by taking some time for myself and doing the things I liked the most. Doing my nails was definitely one of those activities.

August 11th, 2017

#1148: Power naps and skipping Pilates

On August 11th I’m almost certain I’d already gone back to work, which means that this power nap I took and the Pilates class I skipped took place in the afternoon. I used to love Pilates, and I think I’d still love it if I went back, but there’s something about working out in the afternoons that drains my body from all sources of energy. Besides, power naps always sound like a good choice.

August 17th, 2017

#1176: Lunchtime with my pre-k babes

I could get into long debates with other people who argue that lunchtime should be a moment where teachers can be alone and unwind. I’ve had it both ways, and let me tell you, it all depends on the kids. I worked at a school where I’d sit with eleven or twelve pre-k boys, me on one end, the homeroom teacher on the other, and everything worked just fine. Nobody yelled, cried, or threw their food anywhere. (You thought I was going to say “nobody threw up,” huh? That happened, but not as often as you’d think.) It was a nice moment because the boys would eat and they’d tell me all these crazy things, and that made me happy.

August 20th, 2017

#1191: Discovering a new YouTuber.

I have no idea whom I’m talking about here, but judging by the year, I’d say I was referring to a BookTuber. I then got disenchanted by them and even posted about that in a post creatively titled “Why I No Longer Follow Any BookTubers.” I’ll have to give you an update on that one.

August 26th, 2017

#1124: Finally being done with a coloring project.

So you’re telling me that coloring mandalas is supposed to relax you, not stress you out even more? Oops, I suppose I’ve been doing it all wrong. No, but in all seriousness, the satisfaction that finishing a mandala brings to my soul can only be compared with finishing a post series or uploading a TpT product to be sold.

What are five things that made you happy this month? Let me know in the comments.

Happy Thursday!

Love, Miss Camila
