January 2020 Thankful Thursday: Week 4

Hello and happy Thursday. You know when you’re re-watching a show and something bad is about to happen and you’re like mentally telling the characters “ugh, here we go,” but they don’t listen because technically they haven’t gone through that? Well, that’s what it’s like to look back on some of the happy thoughts I wrote down in 2018. Like, I totally get why I was happy at the moment but that’s because I had no clue what was to come after that. So I guess here’s to happiness that might turn into something else later.

January 23rd, 2018: Being invited to online interviews makes me excited and happy.

Now, this isn’t the online interview that got me into the program I attended that summer. This was if I’m not mistaken, an interview for a private school in DC, just in case the original plan didn’t work, you know? It was one of those formats in which you get a prompt and have a minute or so to record yourself answering. That’s sort of stressful but not as much as actual Skype interviews, which I despise. Since then I’ve done a few phone interviews and in fact, I got my actual job through one. The first time I visited the school was to sign my contract. If that isn’t proof that technology has evolved to benefit us, I don’t know what is.

Have you had any job interviews that were held online? How did they go? Let me know in the comments.

Happy Thursday!

January 2020 Thankful Thursday: Week 3

Copy of Copy of THROWBACK THURSDAY.pngHello and happy Thursday. I already read today’s random happy thought and it is so lame that I’m kind of embarrassed. Weirdly enough, it’s been so long that now I feel second-hand embarrassment like it was someone else who felt happy about this lame thing and not me. Anyway, here it is. Enjoy.

January 16th, 2018: Finding out the birthday of a cute guy makes me happy.

Good thing MHD doesn’t read because he won’t see this post. Yes, MHD was the “cute guy” I was referring to, hence the embarrassment I expressed in the previous paragraph. We had been talking for a couple of weeks and I asked him when his birthday was because I thought we had something nice going on and that we’d meet in March when I traveled to Baltimore and that it would be awesome. We all know by now how that turned out. Fun fact: I still remember his birthday because my mind is full of useless facts. That made me happy at the time, so at least there’s that.

Sorry for the super lame Thankful Thursday, but I am kind of lame and sometimes it shows. Tell me what’s made you happy this week.

Happy Thursday!

Love, Miss Camila

January 2020 Thankful Thursday Week2

January 2020 Thankful Thursday Week2

Copy of THROWBACK THURSDAY.pngHello and happy Thursday. There is something about presents that  I absolutely love. I’ve always said that I like giving presents more than receiving them, and though that’s true, I get super excited when someone gives me something, especially when I haven’t been expecting it. I’m thinking about this because usually the weeks after Christmas are filled with reunions and gifts someone had for you and didn’t get a chance to give you in December. Maybe that happens exclusively to teachers, I don’t know. What I do know is that today’s Thankful Thursday is all about that.

January 9th, 2018: Getting Christmas presents from my preschool babes.

Now, some context for the people who are new here. At that time I was working as an English and Science teacher for what we call “preschool” in Colombia, which is pre-k, kindergarten and transition, a grade between kindergarten and first grade. My mom had planned this trip to Florida for months but we didn’t know the date when I would be officially on holiday break at school, so I had to ask for permission to skip the last three days. Usually in Colombia, students bring Christmas presents on the last day before break, but I wasn’t there, so my amazing co-workers and boss saved all the non-edible/non-perishable presents for me to get in January.

It was obviously a great surprise because the holidays had been over for a few days and the whole Christmas spirit had died down, but getting those presents sort of relived it. From what I remember, I got a guardian angel to place at the top of the tree, a beautiful candle, body lotion and splash, earrings, cookies, and a chocolate cake that my friend took home and ate because it would have gotten bad. What can I say? Part of teaching young children is getting presents, and I love it.

In the comments below, tell me about a nice surprise you’ve gotten lately.

Happy Thursday,

Love, Miss Camila

Hello and happy Thursday. I’ve been thinking a lot about this post series and I’m pleasantly surprised that you seem to like it so far. Of course, your opinion matters to me and even though I always want to write about stuff I like, I also think of my readers. Well, I’ve come to the conclusion that I should exploit this series a bit more and I can do that by making it a weekly thing rather than a monthly thing.

We finished the happy thoughts of 2017, which means that now we must venture into 2018, but that year I started writing only one happy thought each day as opposed to five. That is a change I had to consider because that means I won’t have as much “content,” which obviously sucks given that five seconds ago I said I’d decided to make this type of post a weekly thing. I have decided to give you one happy thought a week, instead of five condensed in a single blog once a month. The posts will be shorter, but I think seeing them more often will make up for the lack of length. After this introduction, let’s get started, shall we?

January 2nd, 2018

Getting organized using my new planners makes me feel happy and at ease.

I’m a planner, so I get super excited when I get agendas and calendars for Christmas, and I really can’t wait for it to be January so that I can use them. Besides my teaching planner, which I often keep at school, I have a life planner, and this one sometimes is not one but two: I like monthly and weekly planners. There’s also something nice about writing special dates in a new calendar, don’t you think? Even if you’re just marking your parents’ birthdays, which you won’t forget for the life of you. Honestly, as much as I love the holidays, I love even more that time after they’re over, before coming back to work, when I can brainstorm ideas and get ready for the school year to be over.

Are you a planner? Let me know in the comments below.

Happy Thursday!

December 2019 Thankful Thursday

Copy of THROWBACK THURSDAY.pngHello and happy Thursday. I’d been postponing this for weeks, but now I can’t anymore because I don’t want to get super behind in my schedule and also because these happy thoughts might be just what I need. I’m thinking about continuing with Thankful Thursday next year because there are still many happy thoughts to share, and now I feel like I’m repeating myself, so let’s just get started, shall we?

December 4th, 2017

#1803: Chocolate pencils

What do you give to a teacher who loves candy more than anything? You give them chocolates shaped like pencils, of course. And because you want to make her extra happy, you get her a box in which each pencil is a different color. Sadly, the chocolate lasted for about ten seconds because I clearly needed to consume it immediately.

#1824: Being close to finishing a process with Teaching Fellows

Reading this right now and having to type it is bittersweet because we all know how that process went. Yes, I got selected in the program and yes, I got to travel to the States to complete it, but while I was there my mental health was pretty much at its worst and I came back to Colombia. I am happy, though, that those times are now in the past and that I can move forward.

December 13th, 2017

#1846: Being officially on Holiday

I don’t know at what point I became British, but I think we can all agree that being on vacation makes us happy. Now, I say “officially” because I had to take a few days off work to travel with my family and let me tell you, the school’s principal wasn’t happy. He still gave me permission though, so at least there’s that.

December 17th, 2017

#1866: Cracker Barrel

Look, anywhere that has pecan pancakes, biscuits, and a gift shop is my happy place. I’ve eaten my fair share of pancakes in my life and nothing tops Cracker Barrel. It is also a staple when I go to Florida with my family. Usually, the last thing we do before traveling back home is have breakfast at Cracker Barrel and eat so much we end up not wanting to eat junk food in a while.

December 21st, 2017

#1889: Selling my old books

There’s this store in Bogota that only a person who’s lived in a third world country can truly appreciate. They sell everything from books to makeup to appliances, and they also buy used books. Granted, they buy them for a little over $3 each, but money is money, baby, and making it makes me happy.

What has made you happy during this wonderful month? Let me know in the comments below.

Happy Thursday!

YESvember Thankful Thursday Week 4

Copy of THROWBACK THURSDAY.png

Hello and happy Thursday. Yesterday I got a phone call I totally wasn’t expected and it improved my mood by 1000%, which makes me even more excited to share this week’s happy thoughts. Let’s get started, shall we?

November 16th, 2017

#1714: Getting new stuff.

I am obsessed with online shopping, and sometimes I buy something and totally forget about it until it arrives and it’s double the joy. I don’t know what it was that I got because, again, I don’t really keep track of my purchases, but at least it made me happy, right?

November 17th, 2017

#1718: Flying by myself.

Here I’m talking about a trip I took to Cartagena with my sister, only the day I flew there she had class and couldn’t make it to the airport. That meant I was traveling alone and she would get there the following day. I had only traveled by plane completely by myself twice before and it was just like magic, really.

November 18th, 2017

#1723: Having lunch at La Brioche.

Listen up: if you go to Cartagena and have a sudden urge to eat a burger for lunch, go to La Brioche at Bocagrande. It is an absolutely fantastic place that I totally recommend and would visit again in a heartbeat.

November 19th, 2017

#1730: Zumba en la Plaza.

Okay, this post is starting to look like a guide to Cartagena or something, but one of the things you MUST experience there is Zumba en la Plaza. I’m not sure if that is still happening, but it used to be almost like a tradition. Basically, every Sunday at 7pm in the Getsemani town square there is/was a Zumba class. I missed it the time I went to Cartagena with my friends from university, but I was sure going to be there when I went with my sister. And I did. And it was awesome.

November 20th, 2017

#1733: Making plans for our next trip.

Between 2017 and 2018 I was able to take my sister on some nice trips to touristic cities in Colombia, and it was a very cool experience. We spent three days in Cartagena at that time, which obviously meant that there were some things we could not do or see. So, obviously, as we made a list of what we’d missed, I was already thinking about going home and buying tickets for another time. I guess you’ll have to wait and see if there’s a second part of our Sisterventures in Cartagena.

What city or town makes you happy and why? Let me know in the comments below.

Happy Thursday!

YESvember 2019 Thankful Thursday Week 3

Copy of THROWBACK THURSDAY.pngHello and happy Thursday. I always get excited to share these happy thoughts with you because it’s nice to look back and remember moments in my life that were relevant enough for me to put them down on paper. If you’re new to this blog or this series, hi, my name is Camila and I have a notebook where every day I write thoughts that made me happy. I am now recalling the happy thoughts from 2017 and will progress to other years as I keep writing these posts. Let’s get started, shall we?

November 11th, 2017

#1687: Finishing my planning and even creating some nice products.

Unlike other teachers, I enjoy lesson planning and I get so invested in the process that I even create resources for my own students, which I sell on my TpT store. You will see that often at least one of these thoughts is work-related and that’s because I love my job as a teacher, and even when I’m not in a classroom giving class, doing teaching-related stuff brings me joy.

November 12th, 2017

#1694: Watching videos of ’90 Day Fiancé’

Sorry about the poor grammar here, but you got what I meant. I still sometimes get caught in the 90-Day Fiancé drama, although not as much as I did in the past. Because the show wasn’t really a big deal in Colombia, I would watch clips of it on YouTube via TLC because that’s how desperate I was to watch it. My favorite person is Anfisa and yes, you can fight me on that one.

November 13th, 2017

#1697: Watching episode 1 of Fuller House.

Again, I don’t think this is grammatically correct, but what are we going to do? Yes, I’ve watched every episode of Fuller House there is and yes, I cried in the first one. Is it better than Full House? No, but at least it’s entertaining and the episodes are short, so it’s good for binge-watching.

November 14th, 2017

#1704: A more relaxed Tuesday than I’d anticipated.

Remember in a previous post that I talked about how I had to come up with a choreography for the Christmas show at school? I’m pretty sure this Tuesday the kids were rehearsing for said Christmas show, and even if rehearsals are stressful and time-consuming, I’ll take those over teaching an actual class when we’re this close to the holiday break.

November 15th, 2017

#1709: Successfully working on another Skype exchange.

Don’t be dirty-minded, these Skype exchanges were for my students. We managed to do this video conference with a teacher who lives in the States and her class of Spanish learners, and it was beautiful. The kids sang, we took pictures, and everybody had a great time.

What has made you happy this week? Let me know in the comments below.

Happy Thursday!
