September 2019 Thankful Thursday

Copy of THROWBACK THURSDAY.pngHello and happy Thursday. I feel like I’m changing the title in every post, but I’m too lazy to look at the last one I wrote and consistency is overrated anyway, right? Today we’re going to sit down for a few minutes and think about things that have made us happy. I’ll help you by sharing five of mine. Let’s get started, shall we?

September 4th, 2017

#1270: Taking a short nap on my way home.

Over time, I have become an expert bus napper. Yes, I have developed the skills to fall asleep on a bus and wake up in time to get off at my stop. And no, I don’t mean a school bus, but an actual public transportation vehicle. Besides those precious moments of undisturbed rest, I think it made me happy to know that I was actually able to wake up on my own before my stop. That proves just how well my intuition works.

September 9th, 2017

#1291: Wearing two makeup looks in one day.

I am assuming that I had a nighttime event, so I wore my regular (extra) makeup look during the day, and then I removed all of it and put on a new face. I don’t do that anymore because I am basically a hermit and I don’t go out at night as much, but there’s this magic that comes from transforming a daytime look into a nighttime one. It’s like playing pretend or like you’re two different people or something.

September 15th, 2017

#1321: Going to the movies with my grandmother.

My grandmother is the coolest person you will ever meet and the absolute love of my life, so of course, I decided to take her to the movies on a Friday afternoon. I worked until noon on Fridays, so it was perfect. I went to her house and we went to the mall that’s close by and we watched the cutest movie ever. It’s a French film about this old man who creates an online profile for a dating site but he lies about his age and ends up falling for a woman who’s much younger than him, and if that doesn’t sound like the best kind of movie you could watch with your grandmother, I don’t know what does.

September 19th, 2017

#1345: Resisting more my HIIT workout.

This sounds like it’s grammatically incorrect, but I’m not sure how the phrasing should go. In 2017 I was super into getting fit, not because I wanted to lose weight or be skinny but because I wanted to gain more muscle. For this, my nutritionist suggested HIIT, high-intensity interval training. And let me tell you, it was intense, so I obviously felt very proud of myself when I felt that I was able to resist more time or to do the exercises more intensely.

September 25th, 2017

#1371: Having tickets for the Bruno Mars concert.

I went to this concert with my sister and my two best friends and it was amazing. The process of getting the tickets? Not so much. Everybody and their mom was on that website on the day the ticket sale began, obviously, so the site crashed and my best friend was pressuring me and I, in turn, was pressuring my dad because this sale was exclusive for people who had a credit card with a certain bank and my dad had that credit card. It was stressful, to say the least, so when the tickets were purchased I was equal parts happy and relieved.

Those are my five happy thoughts for the month of September and now I want you to tell me something that has made you happy. Spread the good vibes in the comments below.

Happy Thursday,

Love, Miss Camila

August Thankful Thursday

August Thankful Thursday

Hello and happy Thursday. I am currently in a summer house two hours away from where I live and it’s pouring outside, but I just love being here and not in Bogota. I plan on having very intense reading sessions, and that makes me super happy. Let’s get started, shall we?

August 5th, 2015

#1117: Doing my nails for Back to School.

Going back to school for me was a whole event for me, and I would prepare by taking some time for myself and doing the things I liked the most. Doing my nails was definitely one of those activities.

August 11th, 2017

#1148: Power naps and skipping Pilates

On August 11th I’m almost certain I’d already gone back to work, which means that this power nap I took and the Pilates class I skipped took place in the afternoon. I used to love Pilates, and I think I’d still love it if I went back, but there’s something about working out in the afternoons that drains my body from all sources of energy. Besides, power naps always sound like a good choice.

August 17th, 2017

#1176: Lunchtime with my pre-k babes

I could get into long debates with other people who argue that lunchtime should be a moment where teachers can be alone and unwind. I’ve had it both ways, and let me tell you, it all depends on the kids. I worked at a school where I’d sit with eleven or twelve pre-k boys, me on one end, the homeroom teacher on the other, and everything worked just fine. Nobody yelled, cried, or threw their food anywhere. (You thought I was going to say “nobody threw up,” huh? That happened, but not as often as you’d think.) It was a nice moment because the boys would eat and they’d tell me all these crazy things, and that made me happy.

August 20th, 2017

#1191: Discovering a new YouTuber.

I have no idea whom I’m talking about here, but judging by the year, I’d say I was referring to a BookTuber. I then got disenchanted by them and even posted about that in a post creatively titled “Why I No Longer Follow Any BookTubers.” I’ll have to give you an update on that one.

August 26th, 2017

#1124: Finally being done with a coloring project.

So you’re telling me that coloring mandalas is supposed to relax you, not stress you out even more? Oops, I suppose I’ve been doing it all wrong. No, but in all seriousness, the satisfaction that finishing a mandala brings to my soul can only be compared with finishing a post series or uploading a TpT product to be sold.

What are five things that made you happy this month? Let me know in the comments.

Happy Thursday!

Love, Miss Camila

July Thankful Thursday

July Thankful Thursday

Hello and happy Thursday. I hope you’re having a great day, and if you’re in need of a bit of encouragement, here are five things that made me happy during the month of July so that you get happy as well. Let’s get started, shall we?

July 3rd, 2017

#954: Watching an underhyped movie

If you know me, then you know that I will pick reading a book any day over watching a movie. That being said, compared to other people, you can say I watch my fair share of movies, and there’s something about indie films that speaks to me. I love underhyped stuff because I don’t feel pressured to like something, which happens when a book or movie is super mainstream.

July 9th, 2017

#983: Watching Degrassi season 4

I recommend the most recent version of Degrassi to everybody especially if you’re in the mood for binge-watching a show. The episodes are super short and they require you to use absolutely zero brain cells, which is something that every teacher in July appreciates.

July 15th, 2017

#1012: Having a cute, young Portuguese teacher

She was indeed cute and young, but that was about it. She was super strict and her classes dragged on forever. Also, she was from the south of Brazil, so she “corrected” us so that we would copy her accent, even though our pronunciation was okay, only softer than hers. The following level, I switched from having classes on Saturdays to taking them at night, so at least my experience with her was helpful in that way.

July 20th, 2017

#1040: Considering an alternative for the coming school year

I think I was referring to my professional life. I had talked to a family friend who owns a preschool center, and she asked me to go do some trial classes for her. In the end, it turned out that she didn’t have any vacancies for me, and I was happy to continue at the school where I was employed.

July 26th, 2017

#1069: Ditching Zumba and working instead

Back in the day, I was an avid Zumba-goer and when I was on vacation I wouldn’t miss a day. I can think of two reasons why I ditched Zumba that day. Either 1) I had a trial class for the possible job opportunity I told you about in the previous paragraph or 2) I was feeling super inspired and decided to work at home, either lesson planning or developing resources or something.

Summertime madness is almost over, and I would really like to know about the things that have made you happy throughout this month. Share the happiness in the comments below.

Happy Thursday!

June 2019 Thankful Thursday

June 2019 Thankful Thursday

Hello and happy Thursday. Do we all know what day is today? It’s Thankful Thursday, which means I’ll look back into my notebook of things that make me happy and randomly pick five memories from June to share with you. Let’s get started, shall we?

June 2nd, 2017

#800: Ditching all my to-do’s and reading instead

We have all been there, right? I mean, some of us read, some others watch all seasons of The Office in one sitting. Procrastinating makes us happy, especially if we are doing something we really love, like reading a good book.

June 7th, 2017

#824: Attempting a burpee and (almost) succeeding

2017 was my healthy year. I started going to a nutritionist and she suggested HIIT to me. HIIT stands for “high-intensity interval training, ” and burpees are a big part of the whole thing. Well, I avoided them because I couldn’t possibly even think of jumping and planking and all that in one move. I guess I tried, though, and was happy that I almost made it.

June 11th, 2017

#842: Fixing my marker collection

Hello, my name is Camila and I am not a hoarder, I’m a collector. Because of my teaching, I have managed to collect various supplies, including markers, pens, crayons, and basically, anything you can think of that serves the purpose of adding color to paper. I organize said collection every once in a while and it makes me so happy when I do it, I feel like I have brand new stuff all over again.

June 15th, 2017

#864: Making huge donations on behalf of my father

My dad is the best man on earth, and I’m not just saying it because he’s my dad. You can ask around, and everyone will agree with me. For father’s day 2017, he asked us to donate money to a charity on his behalf, and that would be his gift. Seriously, he’s a saint.

June 21st, 2017

#895: Rehearsals going well

Every school has a closing ceremony of sorts at the end of the year. It is a stressful time for children and teachers alike, so when rehearsals go well, the teachers can relax just a tiny bit, and even call it a happy moment.

What has made you happy this month? Tell me all about it in the comments.

Happy Thursday!

Love, Miss Camila

May Thankful Thursday

May Thankful Thursday

Copy of THROWBACK THURSDAY.pngHello and happy Thursday. Welcome to the special edition of Throwback Thursday in which we look through my notebook of things that make me happy and randomly select five to share with you. Let’s get started, shall we?

May 3rd, 2017

#648: Hanging out by the pool

I mean, do we really need a context for this one? Trips make me happy. Pools make me happy, even if I don’t get in them. If you don’t like to hang out by a pool, tell me why, please. I’m curious.

May 7th, 2017

#668: Updating my teaching folders

Here I think I was referring to the Google Drive folders I have, which are full of resources I have acquired and made through the years. I have always loved organizing things, and by this, I don’t mean just physical stuff. I love having my digital files and folders neatly organized.

May 13th, 2017

#700: The soundtrack for a great musical

I want to say I was referring to Dear Evan Hansen, but I can’t be sure because I don’t know since when that show has been around. I personally don’t enjoy musicals as much as other people, but I love listening (and singing) to their music. I haven’t watched Dear Evan Hansen, but I came across its soundtrack and I loved it.

May 17th, 2017

#723: Watching Puss in Boots

For those of you who are new here, hello, my name is Camila and I absolutely love children’s movies. One of the topics I worked on with my former kinder boys was related to fairy tales and nursery rhymes, so as a closure, we watched Puss in Boots, and I enjoyed that movie more than all my students put together.

May 23rd, 2017

#750: Getting through with my Portuguese homework

I don’t usually struggle when it comes to learning a new language, and I found Portuguese particularly easy. This homework, though, must’ve been long and hard because finishing it made me happy.

Now it’s your turn to tell me something that has made you happy. Spread the happy thoughts in the comments below.

Happy Thursday!

April Thankful Thursday

April Thankful Thursday

Copy of THROWBACK THURSDAY.pngHello and happy Thursday. As I explained last month, today is the day in which I share five things that made me happy during the month of April. We’re still doing 2017, as this is the first full year I used my notebook of things that make me happy. Let’s get started, shall we?

April 1st, 2017

#490: Beyoncé makeup

I’m pretty sure I was referring here to a look Nikkie Tutorials did inspired by the Lemonade tour, which I recreated and must have loved so much I felt the need to add it to my notebook. In all fairness, anything that has the word “makeup” in it is going to make me happy.

April 4th, 2017

#504: Sweet-ish bread at lunch

Ready for a culture shock? In Colombia, more specifically in Bogota, which is where I’m from and where I’ve lived my whole life, we have this soup called ajiaco. Ajiaco is basically a potato soup, at least that’s what it is for me because I eat it with no chicken. The sides for ajiaco are usually rice, corn on the cob, avocado, and bread. I remember that the first school I worked at served this sweet bread that was amazing and that my students usually didn’t eat, so I’d be left with seconds.

April 8th, 2017

#525: Spending time with my friends from uni

This entry is from a trip I went on with two of my best friends from university. We traveled to Cartagena and had an absolute blast. I remember that trip very fondly and I really wish we could do another version of it in the future. If you don’t know, by the way, Cartagena is one of Colombia’s most touristic cities. It’s in the coast, and it’s always full of hot foreigners. (I meant the “hot” part literally and figuratively)

April 13th, 2017

#547: Intense hair and skin care sessions

I can only imagine the state of my hair and skin after the Cartagena trip from the previous entry. We came back on April 12th, so I’m thinking I decided to spend the following day recovering from the sun, the sand, and everything that could have hurt my precious little body.

April 17th, 2017

#566: Having smiley fries

Are those a thing where you live? Those fries shaped as smiley faces. I used to love them as a kid and the love hasn’t diminished even now that I’m an adult. I don’t know, there’s something special about them. I even feel like they taste better. The advantage of having worked at a school with preschoolers was that I got fun foods like these fries I love so much.

What has made you happy during the month of April? Tell me all about it in the comments.

Happy Thursday!

Love, Miss Camila

Welcome to Thankful Thursday

Copy of THROWBACK THURSDAY.pngHello and happy Thursday. If you’ve been following this blog for a while, then probably you’ll find the title and thumbnail a bit familiar. Don’t worry, Throwback Thursday is still a thing, but I have decided that the last Thursday of every month is going to be Thankful Thursday.

Here’s the part where I give you some context. For a while now, I’ve had this notebook I titled “Things That Make Me Happy.” It has only a few empty pages now, so I don’t know how much longer it’s going to last me (don’t worry, I have backup). Anyway, I write in that notebook every single day at around 6 pm about something that made me happy. When I started, I didn’t have a defined number of things, so I’d just write whatever came to mind, then I settled on five things, and finally when I started working and being busy I reduced it to one thing.

Now what I want to do is share each month five random things that made me happy. I might provide some context if I remember that specific day or event. Today I’ll share with you five things that made me happy in March of 2017. And after that super long intro, let’s get started, shall we?

March 2nd, 2017

#337: New blogging projects.

Now, you’ll see that the style in which I write these happy things down will change with time. This is how I used to record the happy things at the beginning, by keeping track of the number and everything. Don’t get used to that. Now, regarding the event itself, by then I was already contemplating the idea of getting rid of my four unsuccessful Blogger blogs, and making them one WordPress blog, which has proven very successful so far. This isn’t when I made the blog and actually started posting, but it’s like the day before, when I was sure I was going to do it.

March 6th, 2017

#357: Leftover salad for lunch.

Yes, I remember this particular salad, in the same way that I remember almost everyone and everything in my life. I had recently started going to the nutritionist, and I was really committed to sticking to the eating plan she’d designed for me. If you’re interested to know about that, check out my Journey to Healthy Living series [x] [x] [x] [x] [x]. Anyway, I was at my best friend’s house on a Sunday and we ordered to this place that sells amazing pizza and fried mozzarella and cookies, but instead of ordering any of those, I went for a salad, and because my soul is weak, I couldn’t eat the whole thing, so I took it home, put it in the fridge, and ate it for lunch the following day. Do I think I was genuinely happy about eating leftover salad for lunch? No, but I think I was proud of myself for doing it.

March 14th, 2017

#397: Not having to wear a lab coat.

Over my years working at schools, I’ve had to wear lab coats twice. Here, I’m referring to my first job at a school, in which I had to wear this Heather gray lab coat that always looked dirty. The advantage was that it had huge pockets where I used to keep all sorts of things. It could even hold a small notebook! I only had to wear it on days when students actually came to have class, so on those other days when we had meetings and stuff, I was free and didn’t have to wear the always-dirty-looking coat.

March 17th, 2017

#413: Finding out this is a three-day weekend.

Has this happened to you? Going about your life thinking you have to go to work on a Monday and then finding out that said Monday is actually a holiday? Maybe it happens more often in Colombia because we have so many holidays, but let me tell you, I’m that person who always goes “see you on Monday,” and has to be reminded by someone that, oh no, Monday is actually a holiday. I find that even more exciting than already knowing that you have one more day off way in advance, don’t you?

March 27th, 2017

#464: Advancing tons in a book.

We don’t even need the context on this one because this could make anyone happy in basically every situation ever. I’m not a fast reader, and even though I love books, I take my time with them and read about one per week or so. On top of that, reading big books is sort of intimidating for me, so I guess on this particular day I was able to read many pages from a very big and scary book and I felt proud of myself for that. Who wouldn’t, really?

Those were five things that made me happy and that I wanted to share with you for this month’s Thankful Thursday. I would love to know one thing that has made you happy today, so if you’d like to share, you can do so in the comments.

Happy Thursday!

Love, Miss Camila
