December 2018 Owlcrate

December 2018 Owlcrate

Hello and happy Wednesday. This is what happens when you plan to write a post way in advance: you end up forgetting everything you had gotten by the time you actually get to sit down and write. Luckily, I saved the card we get that says all the goodies I got inside my Owlcrate for the month of December 2018. The theme for that month was “power of illusions,” and you know I love me some magic tricks.

Do you see that cute little candle right there? I love the lavender color, but I especially love its scent. As you might know by now, I don’t light candles in my room, but my mom and my sister do, so this cutie from Flick the Wick made my sister’s room smell like a dream. Honestly, every time I went inside, I had to take the unlit candle and give it a sniff. I wish there were a perfume that smelled like that, I’d totally wear that.

Because it was the December box, we got an ornament from Juniper and Ivy Designs. Now, in my house, we no longer decorate the house for Christmas, but I have my wooden ornament from this box, as well as the one we got in 2017 with the Everything Everything quote hanging from my corkboard. And yes, when I get my place and decorate for Christmas, these will for sure be my ornaments.

I got a magnet from Ink and Wonder Designs, which is now accompanied by three other magnets that I’ve gotten from Owl Crate. I love how these boxes have led me to have collections of cute stuff all over.

Judging by the stuff I’ve hauled and what’s still left for me to talk about, I can surely say that this box went above and beyond. The next item I got was a tote bag from Stella Bookish Art. Now I believe that this is the third tote back I’ve gotten from Owl Crate, and I love using these instead of plastic bags. I will have to go through all my tote bags and maybe get rid of some because I have too many by now.

The next item is one I use every single day, and it’s the magical monthly reading planner. I believe that the improvements made from the planner they sent out the previous year to this one were spot on. I love my planner with the passion of one thousand burning suns, and I even made a post about how I use it. This was made in collaboration with Blue Star Press.

This is not listed in the spoiler card, but I’m sure you can see it in the thumbnail. It is a sneak peek of King of Fools by Amanda Foody. I don’t know what this book is about, but I will read what I was sent and let you know what I thought about it.

Finally, we have the book, Amber & Dusk by Lyra Selene. This book was actually signed by the author, which is even cooler than getting a signed bookplate. Additionally, we have an exclusive Owl Crate cover. I don’t know anything about it, so you’ll have to wait for my review once I’ve read it. With the book, we got a necklace and you know that I’m a total sucker for jewelry.

What is one thing you’d like to get in an Owl Crate, and one you can totally do without? Let me know in the comments.

Happy reading!

November 2018 Owlcrate

Alibris: Books, Music, & Movies

Hello and happy Wednesday. Are we liking the hauls? Are we hating it? Did I become my worst nightmare only doing Owlcrate unboxings? Hopefully, that’s going to change soon. You know I’ve been going through a reading slump and that obviously means I’m not reading as many books as before, so my review supply is kind of low. I’m working on it, though. And while the slump passes, let’s just take a look at the goodies I got in the month of November.

Planter by Team Owlcrate

Because this is an exclusive item, I can’t really link a specific shop where you can get this or something similar. It’s a skull planter, which some people might find cool, but I just don’t know. I gave it to my mom and I don’t know what she’s going to do with it. I thought about maybe painting it like a catrina (sugar skull) to make it more festive, but I’ll probably forget and leave the skull forgotten somewhere. It’s not the item itself, it’s just that this might’ve been a good Halloween product but I don’t feel it makes any sense in November.

Wax Seal Kit by Team Owlcrate and Michelle Gray

Here I do have an issue with the item itself because it sort of feels like a joke. I mean, I would’ve understood if you’d included it in an Owlcrate Jr, but in an Owlcrate? Again, I don’t know what to think about this item. I knew I wasn’t going to use it so I gave it to my best friend who has a ten-year-old nephew. I think that if anything I gave them a fun activity to do together someday.

Pillowcase by Evie Bookish

I don’t have square cushions in my room, but my sister does, so I use that pillowcase in one of her cushions. A few days later, I found the pillowcase in the floor of her room (she’s messy like that) and I asked her why she’d removed it. She said, I don’t know, the quote was from Game of Thrones or something, right? The quote wasn’t from GoT but it’s from a book neither of us have read and we’re not really interested in, and that’s what she meant. The pillowcase is now folded and in the closet where we store all the bedding stuff, for a rainy day, you know?

Craft Kit from the Ann Williams Group

Now this is something that I will for sure be enjoying. I’m actually saving it for the New Years. It’s a kit for making a wish bracelet, and I think it’s just the cutest.

Sticker by Susanne Draws

This sticker has Dumbledore and Fawkes in it and I absolutely adore it. It is now in my sticker notebook until I find a permanent home. This is the kind of thing I enjoy getting, and not just because my teacher brain is obsessed with stickers, but because I think many people can get a good use of them.

Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan

Is it just me, or have the Owlcrate books become more violent with time? I know that maybe it’s just me, and I don’t feel the joy of Owlcrate that I used to. That’s why I cancelled my subscription actually. I don’t know whether I’ll be getting the December box, but after that, you won’t see any more of these unboxings, at least not for a while.

Is there any bookish subscription box that you’d recommend? Let me know in the comments.

Happy reading!

October 2018 Owlcrate

Alibris: Books, Music, & Movies

100th.pngHello and happy Wednesday. This is going to be a bit of an anticlimactic Owlcrate unboxing because I forgot to take a picture of the items as soon as I got the box. Is this self-sabotage? Maybe. Let’s get started, shall we?

Choco Mint Truffle Tea from The Tea Spot

I’ve had this tea twice already and I really like it. Tea is my hot beverage of preference, so I was happy to get this in my Owlcrate. Plus, you all know how much I love the combination of chocolate and mint. It’s like coziness in a mug.

Tea Strainer by Owlcrate Team and Michelle Gray

I had gotten loose tea leafs in the past and they had pretty much gone to waste because I didn’t have a strainer. I think Owlcrate picked up on the fact that maybe this happened to other people, and they decided to include one in their boxes so that everyone could fully enjoy the products in the box. Besides the strainer itself being cute, I think this was a smart move from the Owlcrate team and a step towards curating more products that are useful for everyone.

Book Nerd Socks by Out of Print and Underlined

Nights in Bogota have been super cold lately, so guess what I’ve been wearing to sleep. Again, everybody wears socks, even if not in a fashionable style, and nowadays we all know someone who likes to wear socks with cool designs in them, so either you have something great and cozy for cold days and nights, or you have a fashion item you or someone else can appreciate.

Canvas Clutch Purse from Bookworm Boutique

Okay, this is not just any clutch purse; this is a book pocket and I’m living for it. I’m using it to store my Kindle and the notebook where I write down drafts for book studies, along with a pen. I think it’s adorable and super convenient and something you won’t think you needed until you have it and realize that your life was incomplete before.

Art Print by Michelle Gray

I linked her before, don’t worry. If I know what the art print is about because I’ve read the book it was inspired by, then I’ll for sure use it to decorate the outside (or the inside) of a notebook and give it a bit more life and magic. That’s what I did with the cutie I got in my Owlcrate.

Pride by Ibi Zoboi and Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa

In the month of October we got two books instead of one, and honestly, how could I be mad about that? You know I like going into books blindly, but I’ll tell you what I see: one, I see diverse authors, which I think is awesome. Two, I see that Pride might be a retelling of Pride and Prejudice, a classic I have yet to read.

As you can see, I was very happy about the contents of this Owlcrate, which also included the monthly pin. I want you to tell me the item you would’ve liked to receive and why.

Happy reading!

September 2018 Owlcrate

September 2018 Owlcrate

Lovely Wholesale

Hello and happy Wednesday. Welcome to another Owlcrate unboxing. I think for the next weeks all you’ll see will be these unboxings, but don’t worry, I’m only subscribed til December. I feel like I’ve been losing the excitement of getting these boxes lately because I don’t relate to several of the items included, which inevitably leads me to feel that I’ve wasted my money, but goodies are goodies either way and if I can’t enjoy them, then maybe someone else will, or by seeing these posts you’ll maybe want to try this subscription box, in which case the post would be worth it. Anyways, let’s get started, shall we?

Bath Soak by Leeloo Soaps

This is kind of what I’m talking about. You probably know by now that I love everything that smells nice, and that includes soaps and shower gels and all that good stuff. That being said, I don’t have a bath tub, which means I won’t be using this bath soak. I think I mentioned in a previous unboxing that I give these kinds of products to my best friend because she does have one. I can’t say whether I like this because I haven’t opened it. Here’s a suggestion for the Owlcrate creators/curators: when picking your products, think of stuff that the majority of your costumers will enjoy. This store also has regular soap, so why not include that one instead? I’m just saying…

Fingerless Gloves by Team Owlcrate

This is an exclusive product, so I don’t have a link for you. I really don’t want this whole unboxing to be a fail, but seriously? I mean, I would’ve at least carrying regular gloves in my backpack for cold mornings or days when I have to leave work late in the afternoon, but fingerless gloves? Honestly, they don’t make any sense to me, and because I haven’t read the book they were inspired in, I can’t even find a sentimental value for them. I know exactly who to give them to, and I think they’ll be excited.

Ceramic Mug by Cara Kozik

Mugs! Yay Owlcrate. This is what I mean with items that have a more universal appeal. I love Harry Potter with the passion of one thousand burning suns, and I also happen to really enjoy collecting mugs and using them for the occasional cup of tea. But even if I didn’t love Harry Potter and even if I didn’t appreciate the gorgeous art that decorates this mug, I can still use this for its purpose: as a container for hot beverages. And even if I didn’t want to use it for that, I think this would make a great pencil holder. So there you have it, this is multi-functional.

Lip Balm by GeekFireLabs

Lip balms are like mirrors in my books: there’s no such thing as having too many. I have one lip balm on my desk and one on my nightstand. I have one in my work bag, and also one in every other bag I use because I don’t want to feel that my lips are chapped and not being able to do anything about it. But you know what I love even more than lip balm? Lip balm that smells (tastes?) of something special. I loved the glazed donut one, and the mint blackberry one, and I’m sure enjoying this apple mint scent (flavor?). I mean, who even likes strawberry anymore?

Art Print by Kirsty Carter

I’ll be short and sweet with this one: I threw it away. I had no idea what the print was inspired by, so I threw it because I didn’t want to have a pretty piece of cardboard floating around my room. I’m sorry, but I’m also very indifferent towards this “item.”

Mirage by Somaiya Daud

I like the fact that Owlcrate seems to be curating books from diverse authors and not the same five white people Booktubers are always talking about. I don’t know anything about the plot of this book, and I want to keep it that way until I’m able to read it and review it, but a pretty hard cover and an exclusive design are always good things in my books.

Besides those “official” items, I got the Owlcrate pin and a tiny bottle of nail polish, which I think came with an ad for a new book. I’m sorry for this very anticlimactic unboxing, but I still want to know what you thought about it and what items you’d like to have.

Happy reading!

August 2018 Owlcrate

August 2018 Owlcrate

Hello and happy Wednesday. I love hauls and I feel like being able to do hauls and unboxings in this blog is super relaxing and fun. I mean, just getting these boxes and going through the goodies is like getting presents every month. Today I’ll be sharing with you what I got in my Owlcrate during the month of August. Let’s get started, shall we?

Pocket Mirror by Catarina Book Designs

I think this is the second or third pocket mirror I’ve gotten in an Owlcrate, and I’m not mad about it. I personally hate having to take all of my stuff from one bag or purse and move it to another, so I have some basics in each one: lip balm, a tampon, and yes, a pocket mirror. I especially love the fact that this one closes and that it came with a bag, that I still use to avoid it cracking and me getting seven years of bad luck.

Gemstone Ring by GeoCentral

That is my kind of ring, and it’s honestly a type of product that I never thought I would see in an Owlcrate. I love that it’s big and chunky because I have big hands and I need people to notice my accessories. I also think that the color selection for the gemstone was spot-on because it will look great with just about anything you wear. Good job, Owlcrate.

Magnetic Bookmarks by Craftedvan

I am not particularly picky with my bookmarks, but I do tend to prefer magnetic ones because I think they’re more practical and also they’re usually cuter. I love that these bookmarks have the three Queen villains and their alter-egos because, fun fact, I love villains.

Book Tin by Stella Bookish Art

Okay, I’ve never read The Cruel Prince but I thought that quote was awesome, and the design of the tin had to be displayed, so it is now at the top of my bookshelf being pretty. Guess what I’m storing there? Yes, bookmarks.

Tea Towel by Little Inklings Design

I kind of love/hate when I get stuff for the house in my Owlcrates. I love it because I feel I can give something to my mom for her to use in the apartment, which is nice because it means I can give her an unexpected present. I hate it, though, because it means that is an item I won’t be enjoying directly and that’s pretty much the purpose of spending $30 plus shipping every month. So, yeah, it’s cute, it makes my kitchen look fancy, but there’s not much to say about it.

Grace and Fury by Tracy Banghart

This is the book of the month, which as always is a hard cover, and as per usual with Owlcrate books, it has an exclusive cover. You know that I like going into books blindly but as I was going through the spoiler card, I did read the word “feminism,” which is pretty much an indicator that I’ll like the book.

Besides the items I listed and linked, I got this card with a quote on it, and the Owlcrate pin. Which of these products are you most excited about? Let me know in the comments.

December OwlCrate Unboxing

December OwlCrate Unboxing

Hello and happy Wednesday. Long time no unboxing, huh? Well, I’m fixing that by sharing with you the stuff I got in my December OwlCrate. The theme for that month was Seize the Day, and if that’s not one of the cutest themes I don’t know what is. Let’s get started, shall we?

I’ll start with the book of the month because it looks and sounds amazing. It’s Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills, and the premise is super interesting because it’s about a girl who overhears a couple’s breakup and somehow gets tangled in the drama, which I think it’s really original. Of course, you can be sure that as soon as I read it, I’ll share a review in here. Along with the book, as always, came a signature sticker thingy as well as an adorable patch with the title of the book.

I also got a double-sided bookmark from Little Inklings Designs . You know I collect bookmarks, so it’s nice to get new ones, especially when they have cool quotes. Because I’m moving soon, I’m pretty sure this bookmark will end up in my best friend’s hands, but until then, I’ll enjoy it as much as I can.

It was a nice surprise to find this card thingy with a note from Kasie West, as well as a link to an exclusive Q&A and an excerpt of her latest novel, Lucky in Love. I will be sharing my first impressions of it next week.

You know I love pretty things, so I was super excited to get the magnet from Ink and Wonder Designs with a Rick Riordan quote. I personally love to display powerful quotes around my room or places I frequent so that I get empowered by them. This magnet was also an exclusive design for OwlCrate.

Honestly, as I’m writing this post I can’t believe there are still more items. I love OwlCrate and I’m waiting for the moment when I’m financially stable enough to pay for a full year in advance. The next item is one of those both my teacher and my reader’s heart appreciate in equal parts. I’m obviously talking about the “Don’t let the muggles get you down” by Bookworm Boutique. And yes, this too is an exclusive OwlCrate item.

To continue with the good stuff, let’s talk about the candle inspired by The Names They Gave Us by Emery Lord. This was made by Novelly Yours, so you can be sure it smells like heaven. I’m not a candle lover, but my sister is, and she was very grateful.

An item that went straight to my happy little heart was the wooden tree ornament created by Juniper & Ivy Designs. It’s the cutest book stack with a quote from Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon. I haven’t read this book yet, but it’s been on my TBR list for a while now. This will for sure be the first ornament I’ll put on my tree this Christmas.

I saved this item for last because it was my very favorite. I’m talking about the planner and reading journal created by OwlCrate and Blue Star Press. Now, you know that I have various notebooks I use for book blogging: I have one where I write my thoughts on books, then there’s the notebook where I have a long list of  post ideas, but now that I have my planner my blogging life has improved by 300%. I’ll write a whole post on how I use this baby, so expect it soon.

In the comments tell me what your favorite item from this OwlCrate was and why.

Happy reading!

November OwlCrate Unboxing

November OwlCrate Unboxing

GOING ON.pngHello and happy Wednesday. I’m sorry there’s no flashy thumbnail picture of my November OwlCrate, but I must’ve deleted it and couldn’t find the items to take another one given that I’ve already used some. We’ll do sort of a “blind” unboxing, and I’ll still tell you what I thought about each item and share the links to the shops with you. Let’s get started, shall we?

Expecto Patronum Beanie

This is an OwlCrate product, which I think is super cool. I love Harry Potter-related merchandise, and of course I love this beanie, even though I’m not a fan of hair accessories. I’m waiting for a cold winter day to rock this, though.

Game of Thrones Lip Balm

This blackberry mint lip balm is from GeekFireLabs, and I absolutely love their products (I still have and use the glazed donut lip balm from the Run Away With the Circus crate). This particular lip balm, called “Winter is Here,” is the definition of something fresh and soothing. I love how it feels on my lips and I’m crazy about the scent. Also, you know Game of Thrones is my baby, and I love GoT merch because I feel like I was late to the party and I need to catch up with the cool kids.

Elven Bread Soap

So, elves are from The Hobbit/ Lord of the Rings…right? I honestly have no idea about the inspiration for this soap, but it’s great. It is from FizzyFairyApothecary, and if you don’t know about her and her shop, where have you been living? This soap was fresh but soft at the same time. I felt like it was perfect to use at night after a day of hiking a desert in Arizona.

A Court of Mist and Fury Notebook

Did I get the title of that book right? Again, a reference to a series I haven’t read (and, to be honest, don’t plan to read). This notebook was designed by Stella Bookish Art , and even though I haven’t read the book it came from, I really love the quote, and the cover print. It is a lined, spiral notebook, which I really appreciate because I get so much more use out of spiral notebooks, and I’m currently using it to write down post ideas, so I reach for it on a daily basis.

Grisha Army Brooch

I love big pins and brooches, and I have a place for them on the tote bag I take to Portuguese classes. Although I don’t know the books this brooch was inspired from, I really like the way it was designed. It is made of plastic, but it looks and sort of feels like wood, which is pretty cool. Then the back part, you know, the part you’re supposed to pin to clothes or fabric, is a magnet. I think that’s genius because then you don’t risk ruining a piece of clothing, poking holes through it. The magnet is super strong and the brooch stays perfectly in place. This one is from Juniper and Ivy Designs.

The Glass Spare by Lauren DeStefano

This looks like an interesting book, definitely along the lines of what I’m currently into, with the kingdoms, and magic and all the good stuff that fantasy YA brings us. I am definitely looking forward to reading and reviewing this book.

That was the unboxing for the November OwlCrate. Out of the items I described and reviewed, which one sounded the most interesting to you and why? Let me know in the comments!

Happy reading!
