October 2019 Thankful Thursday

October 2019 Thankful Thursday

Copy of THROWBACK THURSDAY.png

Hello and happy Thursday. I just got an email saying that my domain has been renewed for another year, and that makes me happy and excited for this blog of mine that I have seen grow so much. Today I am going to share with you five things that made me happy in the month of October. Now, just to clarify, these happy thoughts are from 2017 because that’s when I started my notebook of Things That Make Me Happy. Also, I did post in English last month even though it was Spanish September, but for some reason, blogging in Spanish is a struggle for me, so I’d rather cheat and post in English than leave you with nothing. Anyway, let’s get started, shall we?

#1502: Having a productive streak this afternoon.

I don’t know if this happens to you, but every once in a while I get in this proactive mood and I just have to work and do things, and it’s super gratifying. I think that I might have been doing something related to my job, but it also happens with TpT or blogging. The problem is that after getting really inspired and being super ambitious for a day, it sort of dies down and then I’m left with lots of to-dos on my list that I don’t plan to accomplish.

#1525: Break week!

This is the total opposite of what I just described. Schools in Colombia give students a week of vacation in October for no apparent reason, and even if teachers are required to go to work, days without kids are always relaxed. When I was working at my first school, they gave us Friday off and Monday was a holiday, so we got a four-day weekend. And yes, as much as I love my job, I love vacations even more.

#1558: Walking through a park filled with cats.

If you go to Medellin, you must visit the Botanical Garden. First, the entrance is free and the park is absolutely beautiful, and second, it is full of cats. Of course, these are stray cats, so you can’t pet them or get too close to them, but just looking at them and taking pictures of them was totally worth the visit for me.

#1577: Coming up with a choreography for the Christmas song.

Dear aspiring kindergarten teacher, you need to know how to dance, or rather, coach a group of four and five-year-olds in a simple dancing routine. You will probably have an end-of-year performance that involves singing, dancing, or acting, and it can be the most stressful and time-consuming part of your job if you make it so, but it can also be very fun. Your choice.

#1602: Having the chance to teach my former pre-k babes.

I used to teach two pre-k classes, one kindergarten, and two transitions (a grade between kindergarten and first grade). This means that when my pre-kinder students went up to kindergarten, I would only teach half of them because there was another teacher in charge of the other class. It made me happy teaching my former students and seeing that they remembered some of my classroom routines.

I am very excited for next month because it’ll be YESvember, and that means that every week we’ll have Thankful Thursday. What are you excited about or looking forward to? Let me know in the comments.

Happy Thursday!

Updated TBR List

Updated TBR List

100th (1).pngHello and happy Wednesday. I am super excited about today’s post because I love it when I can share useful stuff with you. A few months ago, I posted about my digital TBR list, which you could download for free on Teachers Pay Teachers. Well, I have updated that list and now you can download it without going anywhere or registering to any websites. Just click this link: Miss Camilas TBR List and you’ll get the file.

Now, for those of you who don’t know or are not sure, a TBR list is, it’s basically all the books I own and want to read. TBR means “to be read.”  A condition for a book to be in my TBR list is that I already have it so I wouldn’t need to purchase it. To me, having this list is great because I am organized and am aware of all the books I have. I feel that since I’ve made it, I have read more books and rediscovered some I’ve acquired in the past and forgot about.

My TBR consists of books I have bought, books from Kindle Unlimited or that I discovered via Goodreads recommendations, NetGalley and Edelweiss ARCs, and books I’ve gotten on subscription boxes. It is a combination of pretty much every genre out there, so I’m sure that you can look through it and find a title or two that you like.

As with any of the products I release, you have full freedom to adapt it any way you feel like. You can print all the pages, or keep the digital TBR and, like me, highlight every title as you read it. You can also make your own version of your TBR by deleting or adding titles. I have linked all the books to their Goodreads so that if you’re curious, you can click on them and check them out. This is also a preview of the book reviews you will be seeing in the future.

What is a book you can’t wait to read? Let me know in the comments.

Happy reading!

Subtle Green Halo Eye

Subtle Green Halo Eye

Hello and happy Monday. I’m sorry for those of you who are new and think that I’ll indeed be subtle when in reality I’m sharing a look featuring neon orange and green eyeshadow. When I say “subtle” I mean “subtle for me,” as in it’s not a smokey eye or I’m not wearing hot pink lipstick. Anyway, I feel that these neon shades weren’t really flashy because they were more on the neon-pastel side. Here’s how I achieved this look:

  1. Matte brown (crease)
  2. Neon orange (inner and outer corner of the eye)
  3. Neon green (center of the lid)
  4. Green eyeliner (waterline)
  5. Mascara
  6. Primer
  7. Foundation
  8. Concealer
  9. Powder
  10. Eyebrows
  11. Contour
  12. Blush
  13. Highlighter
  14. Nude lipstick
  15. Dewy setting spray

What comes to mind when you think of a subtle makeup look? Let me know in the comments below.

Happy Monday!

The Bad Bin: Brands I Won’t Buy Anymore

The Bad Bin: Brands I Won’t Buy Anymore

img_1078.jpg

Hello and happy Sunday. Today I bring you all the empties I’ve accumulated for a while of brands I won’t be repurchasing. I’m “canceling” these brands for three main reasons: one, they are too expensive and I don’t want to spend that money anymore; two, these are male-owned brands and I’ve found female-owned alternatives; three, when I was researching these brands I didn’t find enough information about them, which makes me feel iffy. Because these are brands I won’t use again, I’m not going to link anything, but you can do your own research if you’re so inclined. Let’s get started, shall we?

  • L’Occitane
  • Jergen’s
  • Claire D’arcey
  • Nivea
  • Bath and Body Works
  • Burberry
  • Victoria’s Secret
  • Papa Recipe
  • Pink
  • L’Oreal
  • Kevyn Aucoin
  • CVS
  • Kativa
  • Maybelline
  • Physician’s Formula
  • Avon
  • It Naturals
  • Gap
  • Sink & Co
  • Hempz
  • It Cosmetics
  • Smashbox
  • Samy Cosmetics
  • Trifle Cosmetics

Do you know of any alternatives to these brands that I could check out? Let me know in the comments.

Happy Sunday!

Ghost Lollipops

Ghost Lollipops

PinkQueen

Hello and happy Saturday. Yes, this is another Halloween post, and yes, it’s about stuff I give my students, more specifically candy. No, I’m not talking about kindergarten students. I made these ghost lollipops for my high school students and they loved them.

This is very simple, so we’ll make it short and sweet. I used lollipops, the cheap ones because I had over a hundred students and wasn’t going to splurge. To make the actual ghost I used white crepe paper, which I like better than silk paper because it is thicker. I used orange yarn to tie the ghost up (yes, I know how that sounded), and a black Sharpie for the faces.

It’s a very quick and simple thing to do that students will appreciate. Because the lollipops had like that swirly tip on the top, I used some tape to make them as round as possible.

Another consideration I’d have is when doing the wrapping because even if this paper is thicker, it can tear and you wouldn’t want that.

Do you give candy to your students in Halloween or do a special activity on this date? Let me know in the comments.

Happy teaching!

March 2019 Page Count

Hello and happy Wednesday. Today we are going to go back in time and take a look at the books I read between February 16th and March 16th, 2019. I am very proud of myself because I did see a significant increase in the page count, which is really encouraging for a super competitive person like me. Oddly enough, I did not read many books, but the pages did add to a nice number. My March 2019 page count is 1407 pages, broken down like this:

How’s your year looking, reading-wise? Are you satisfied? Maybe you’re in a slump right now? Let me know in the comments below.

How to Rock White Eyeshadow

How to Rock White Eyeshadow

Hello and happy Monday. There are some shades we just never use on our eyelids, or better yet, we are so stuck on the same colors that we don’t venture and try others. As much as I like playing with colors, I usually stay within the realm of the browns, the golds, and the occasional pink, which is cute, but safe. Today I want to show you how to step out of that comfort zone with a shade you’ve probably never considered: white. These are the steps I followed to achieve this look:

  1. Primer
  2. Concealer
  3. Foundation
  4. Powder
  5. Lip balm
  6. Contour
  7. Blush
  8. Eyebrows
  9. Matte brown (crease)
  10. White eyeshadow (lid)
  11. Black eyeliner (tightline)
  12. Mascara
  13. Lipliner
  14. Matte lipstick

What is a shade you’ve never worn on your eyelids but you’d like to give a try to? Let me know in the comments below.

Happy Monday!
