Hello and happy Sunday. Last week I told you about the things I’ve learned when it comes to doing makeup, and how my perceptions and ideas regarding makeup have also changed. I’ve grown way more confident both on my skill and my looks, and I think that’s played a great part in my process of discovering what I’m into and what I’m not.
When I started doing makeup, I loved the British YouTubers, and I’d watch their videos for inspiration. I’m talking about Tanya Burr, Zoella, Niomi Smart, and Louise. The reason why I loved their tutorials was that I felt they were always easy to accomplish, and super natural and soft, and yes, I was into that stuff.
Oddly enough, that’s the reason why I don’t like them. I’m no longer looking for natural, “easy” looks, and I feel that’s the content they are still doing. I haven’t followed any of these YouTubers for a good four years now, but the other day I felt curious and watched one of Tanya’s most recent makeup tutorials, only to find out that it was exactly the same as the ones I used to love.
Now, that’s Tanya’s style, and I’m sure it’s the one many people follow and love, which is why she’s got a solid base of subscribers. The thing is, her style is not compatible to mine anymore. Nowadays, I’d rather watch Nikkie Tutorials, Nicole Guerriero, or Tati do half-hour long tutorials that will challenge and inspire me.
I like to be introduced to new products and new techniques, and I feel these YouTubers I currently watch, have a more professional say than the British girls had. Again, that’s the opinion of a 24-year-old who’s done makeup for over five years, and has actually gone to advanced makeup courses. You can find that Zoe and Tanya are more your style, and we can still be friends.
I’ve already asked you which YouTubers you watch for inspiration, but today I’d like you to tell me in more general terms what you like to see from those YouTubers. Are you more into a relaxed, easy kind of tutorial, or do you like all the glam? Let me know in the comments.
Love, Miss Camila
