A Cute Little Thing

Hello and happy Wednesday. Today’s review will be super short because it’s actually from the shortest little book. I’m talking about the audiobook version of Ajax Penumbra 1969 by Robin Sloan. This book is actually a prequel to Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore, which is a lovely novel in itself and I’ve read nothing like it.

This is the kind of audiobook you can finish in one sitting while coloring mandalas, passing your notes or doing other mindless activities. It is really short and it will have you hooked within the first two minutes.

Narrators for me are super important, and this narrator is amazing. His voice was soothing but not to the point where I was getting sleepy listening to it, you know? I constantly felt like I was a child and somebody was reading to me the most fantastic story.

And of course I need to talk about Robin Sloan’s writing style because it’s super captivating. I loved the fact that one whole chapter was told in the second person, as if the author were talking specifically to Ajax Penumbra, the main character of the story.

I totally adored this story, and it was great to know about Mr. Penumbra before he became the owner of his 24-Hour-Bookstore. It was an amazing read and I would totally recommend it.

Have you read any of the Mr. Penumbra books? What are your thoughts on them? Let me know in the comments!

Happy reading!

Love, Miss Camila
